Social Media Marketing Tip #89

You know what we all love to see from our favorite brands?

A little behind the scenes action!

How many of you have had marathons watching the behind the scenes appendices from the Lord of the Rings trilogy? Just me? No one else? (Well this got awkward…)

Behind the Scenes

It’s seriously fascinating stuff. Like how long it took two men to piece together every chain in every piece of chainmail…by hand! They didn’t have fingerprints by the time they were done.

Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) and some of the stunt men had a habit of head-butting others to greet them. Well, one massive head-butt to Orlando Bloom (Legolas) had him seeing white lights. And left a make-up artist angry that his pale elvish complexion had been ruined for the day.

Have you seen how hilarious (and super-awesome) Andy Serkis (Gollum) is in his motion capture suit? Oh, and his actual, live spit appears in The Two Towers.

Beyond the Fun Facts

…It’s really all about being real. Being human. Being the same as us.

In some ways I feel like I know the LOTR cast and crew, and I grew to admire their passion for their craft. More than ever I wanted to be on the film set and be part of what they were creating.

And you can do that too.

Showing Off

Your job now, is to create a little behind the scenes fun for your social media followers.

Who are you? What do you do every day? Who is that behind the helpdesk emails? What is special about your company? What traditions do you have?

Show who you are to your followers! Not just because it’s fun, but also because it really does show that your brand is made up of people. You are real and can relate to those following you.

How To

So here’s how to show off behind the scenes at your business.

  1. Grab your phone! Or a camera…that’s the part we need.
  2. Get up from your desk….and go find some people! (Sorry introverts, this is way more fun for everyone else when there are people to see).
  3. Go to a meeting. Or someone else’s office. In front of the building. Lunch meeting. The break room. The water cooler. On a delivery run. Somewhere that may seem normal to you, but might be kinda cool for someone else.
  4. Take a picture! And dare I say it…A selfie might be called for!
